Playing Ireland
In Playing Ireland a carpet is reclaimed from a demolished house and remade into a Tricolour Twister mat. The audience activate the piece by playing this form of national Twister, while trying to exert and contort themselves to stay on. Instructions are heard in wireless headphones interwoven between the reading of promotional material taken from the multinational contractors that demolished the home. Playing Ireland asks the question of who is facilitated, and required to participate in Ireland.
The piece was exhibited in the NCAD gallery, AP Antwerp, GRF Zagreb, and was a culmination of two years of work within the area of the Liberties, and the finale of the EU project “In Public, In Particular”.
