AUTUMN.pdf

AUTUMN.pdf is a sculptural installation in which a leaf is taken from a fallen tree during the manufacturing of printing paper for the European market. The leaf is then scanned and photocopied onto the same paper it’s tree produced. Each photocopy falls from an office printer installed on the gallery wall, producing a perpetual autumn. As each page falls, the space is filled with the fallen leaves of a forest that fell before it’s leaves could. The leaves are returned onto the paper they were harvested for, to create a global cycle of geographic class, and labour. The identity of the leaf, and the community it came from is reproduced, reformed, and re-presented on the pages of a European office. The Leaf’s reproduction physicalises the continuous use of locations, and states for the growth of centralised powers, while collapsing geography into a singular space.

The work was first exhibited at ZK/U: The Centre for Art and Urbanistics, Berlin.
