Migrating A Sun
Migrating A Sun transports the Mediterranean sun to Ireland. Viewers are invited to lie under the sky while basking in the warmth of solar-powered heaters, charged and transported from the Barcelona port. The sun hangs above as two marine spotlights focus their beams on the viewer below. A figure crosses the screen on a loop. This figure is a Libyan Migrant who entered Europe through this port. Her passing silhouette documents her daily walk to work, where she is now the cleaner to the port she arrived in.
The transportation of a sun documents the role of Europe in the loop of global displacement. Migrating the Spanish sun, mirrors the sun left behind by migrated people. The connection of skies collapses geography and tribalises the sun. (Images + Video Below)
Migrating A Sun was first exhibited at the 126 Gallery, Galway.
